Quality organic dairy products can be a great source of calcium, vitamin D and protein for many. However, it has also been linked to increased inflammation and uncomfortable bowel issues for those who cannot digest lactose.

Whether you consume it or not, here are a few myths and truths about dairy:

Myth: Dairy is necessary for strong bones. Truth: While high quality dairy products are a good source of calcium, there are many other foods that can provide the calcium and other nutrients needed for strong bones, such as leafy greens, nuts, and fortified foods.

Myth: You need to drink milk to get enough calcium. Truth: In addition to dairy products, there are many other sources of calcium to choose from - tofu and edamame, salmon and sardines, squash or supplements are always options.

Myth: Dairy causes acne. Truth: Some people may experience increased acne due to a sensitivity to dairy products, but for most people without any underlying imbalances, there is no definitive link between dairy consumption and acne.

I always recommend quality over quantity - local, organic and grass fed dairy products are best! However, sensitivity to dairy and other foods may lead to more serious problems such as autoimmune disorders or chronic conditions. Remember! All health issues are caused by stress, bad nutrition, and imbalanced GI flora.
